Abstract: In recent years, at the international level, foreign-related traffic and civil engineering enterprises have accelerated the “going out” pace under the “One Belt, One Road” national strategy. Thus, the high-quality technical talents with international vision and international engineering rules are urgently needed. On the domestic sphere, the nation has accelerated the construction of a comprehensive transportation system. Besides, enterprises are also in urgent need of a large number of high-quality technical talents in first-line construction technology, safety management, testing, and other aspects. In the aspect of vocational education reform, higher vocational colleges have accelerated the reform of classified admission examinations, and the diversification and differentiation of student sources are more obvious. In order to meet the needs of enterprises for diverse talents and to meet the needs of students to grow up and become diverse talents, the practice of classified training for two grades students and the practice of enterprises ordering training have got a great result. This paper sums up the "Two-Five-Three" classified talent training mode for Road and Bridge Engineering major, and puts forward the specific implementation methods and safeguard measures, in order to provide reference for other professional reforms.

Abstract: In the late 1930s, VilemMathesius, founder the Prague Linguistic Circle, put forward the concept of Theme and Rheme. Later, in 1960s, Jan Firbas, member of the Prague Linguistic Circle, proposed Communicative Dynamism (CD), which is based on context. Many domestic and foreign scholars have done lots of research on the theme and rheme of English from the aspect of sentence, but seldom discuss and verify the concept of theme and rheme from the perspective of text or context. Based on theme and rheme, communicative dynamism (CD) and the language differences between English and Chinese, this paper focuses on the influence of context on the CD value of the theme and rheme and analyzes the coherence of English and Chinese translation from the perspective of context.Through the above analysis, we can safely draw the conclusion that the psychological theme is not necessarily the core of thematic progression according to its function of CD. And psychological theme of discourse may also be the premise of speech but not the progressed information (CD+). With the comparison and contrast between English version and Chinese version, the following research would hope to distinguishbetween Chinese discourse progressing and its English counterparts.

Abstract: The establishment of an academic platform is crucial for graduate education. This paper explores and practices the conference from four aspects: enhancing the critical thinking ability of graduate students, writing and oral expression skills, communication skills and the enthusiasm of graduate students to participate in the conference. This paper mainly has the following contents: Organizational Link Design, Teacher-student participation model research, Review indicator system and measurement research, Incentive design, Design of academic exchange platform. In the conference participation mode, the teacher and the students participate together, and the students are the main participants of the conference; in the evaluation index system and the measurement research, the combination of qualitative and quantitative research is adopted. In qualitative evaluation, it evaluates from six aspects: the topic selection, verbal ability, article normativeness, article innovation, written expression ability and communication ability. In quantitative evaluation, it is reflected in the final “level” of the paper. In the design of the incentive method, based on Herzberg's two-factor theory and Skinner's reinforcement theory. In the design of the academic communication platform, the combination of online and offline is adopted. The results showed that the design for the academic conference is successful. However, it should be enhanced on paper reviewing process when the next meeting is prepared because some graduate students are not so much experienced on reviewing manuscripts.

Abstract: The teaching and learning of university mathematics general education courses plays a vital role in forming the basic knowledge structure and cultivating the innovation ability of undergraduate students. Innovation and reform of teaching and learning is an eternal topic for improving instructors’ teaching quality and students’ learning experience. Aiming to enhance undergraduate mathematical literary, we propose a comprehensive teaching approach named “DECIMAL”. The general objectives of this teaching approach are towards a research-oriented teaching model and critical thinking cultivation. Practical experiences are accumulated by years of teaching undergraduate mathematics general education courses, such as “Linear Algebra” and “Probability and Statistics”. Based on current literature research and practical teaching and learning experiences, some guidance of teaching and learning innovation is presented from several aspects, which forms the comprehensive approach “DECIMAL”, consisting of “Design of courses, Examples selection, Charm display, Intelligent tools utilization, Miscellaneous resources, Arousal of interest and Linkage of different courses”. Each factor is illustrated by methodology discussions and specific examples in various teaching scenarios. Positive feedback from students and peers is achieved in teaching practice by applying these teaching methods and techniques comprehensively. The proposed approach has practical significance in teaching and learning of undergraduate mathematics courses for non-math major students.

Measuring Quality Teaching: Developing a Process Focused Framework

Abstract: There is international acknowledgement that the ability of industry and nations to meet the competitive challenges of a growing global economy is often determined by the acquired industry relevant, knowledge, skills and attitudes of its workforce. A significant factor impacting on the level of success achieved by individuals can be directly related to the quality of the teaching experienced in formal Tertiary Vocational Education and Training (TVET) educational settings. The purpose of this paper is to explore, through a documented Chinese case-study of Tianjin City Vocational College, how quality teaching can be measured. The project methodology used was based on an intuitive-rational approach segmented into three (3) phases; preparation, process and reporting. The preparation phase focused on defining quality teaching and developing four research instruments to investigate quality teaching practices. The process phase involved gathering and analysing data generated from questionnaires, classroom observations and interviews. The reporting phase presented the findings of the research to relevant stakeholders. In reviewing the initial findings, it was acknowledged that the framework proposed does not match other quality evaluation methodologies in this area. This is partially because this evaluation methodology used focused on the actual teaching and learning experienced by participants. This measurement of the process at the point of delivery, rather than the outcomes at the point of completion, provides a detailed overview of the current educational climate and teaching practices of the institution being investigated. The data generated allows institutional response to improving teaching quality to be pro-active, impacting on current teaching practices, rather than reactive, focusing on past teaching practices. It was concluded that the evaluation framework created, and the associated research instruments developed, were robust and reliable. It was argued that they could be used with confidence by TVET institutions who want to pro-actively improve the teaching quality experienced by their learners.
