Abstract: Since the 1990s, higher education in the developing countries has gone through great changes in response to their fundamental political and socio-economic reforms. China and Malaysia, the two main Asian developing countries with emerging economies and ambitious goals, were picked up for a comparison of higher education development to better illustrate this general trend. In this comparative framework, comparability about the two countries is analyzed firstly, followed by the consideration of three key dimensions, and George Bereday’s method of comparison is accordingly used. It is noted from the comparison that both Chinese and Malaysian higher education systems have experienced massification, marketization and internationalization, and are currently striding toward universalization with more excellence-driven initiatives of higher education, which involve the main mechanisms and rules, as well as strategies and policies of marketization and internationalization. Yet other than the commonalities at a macro level, in these three areas concerning higher education there are some remarkable differences and disparities, such as the actual paths of size expansion, the growth and fate of private institutions, the conception of internationalization, due to different historical paths, national agendas and socio-political environments. Along this comparative approach, there are three common issues that need further elaborate discussions, namely, the unbalanced structure of quantitative development, centralized decentralization, and internationalization at home.
Abstract: Since the 1990s, higher education in the developing countries has gone through great changes in response to their fundamental political and socio-economic reforms. China and Malaysia, the two main Asian developing countries with emerging economies and ambitious goals, were picked up for a comparison of higher education development to better illustr...

Abstract: Different modulation modes of PWM technology and inverters can be selected for different types of the motors, a variety of AC variable frequency variable speed system structures can also be derived based on the same control principle. So it brings a great challenge to teaching AC variable speed systems. We have identified four factors that hinder students’ learning in this topic: 1) the abstraction of the mathematical logic behind the control theory; 2) the complexity of system structures; 3) the diversity of implementation methods; 4) lack of motivation to explore more engineering applications due to boring textbook contents. To facilitate and inspire student learning, we developed an innovative way to teach the AC Variable Speed Systems course using the simulation models library. The library was implemented based on MATLAB/Simulink to assist students in studying five different types of AC variable speed systems. We assessed the effectiveness of our new teaching practice by evaluating students’ cognitive and affective behavior under both the traditional lecture-based teaching environment and the new simulation-assisted teaching environments. The practice assessment tools that take into accounts the in-class performance (attendance accounts for 10% and the experimental reports account for 20%), the lab assignments computer operation score (30%) includes software operation (10%) and system constitution and design (20%), and the final exam (40%) are designed to assess the students’ understanding of AC variable speed systems. The student group learning under the simulation-assisted teaching environment delivered a superior performance in all measures including the noticeable improved scores on the final exam. We also developed a survey to evaluate the students' affective behavior by measuring their motivation for learning and their perceptions of effectiveness of practice. Ninety percent of students reported that the new teaching practice using the simulation models library is much more interesting and inspiring than the traditional lecture-based teaching approach.

Abstract: With China entering a new stage of development, industrial upgrading and economic restructuring are accelerating, the demand for technical skilled personnel in all walks of life is becoming more and more urgent, and professionalism has become the core competitiveness of graduates of vocational colleges. Starting from the relationship between professional quality and talent training, this paper analyzed and expounded the significance of strengthening professional quality in higher vocational colleges for students, schools and society;studied the problems existing in the traditional talent training model of higher vocational colleges. This paper proposes that the innovation of talent training mode should make it clear that professional quality is the core, set talent training objectives and improve talent training programs according to the demand of economic and social development. We should scientifically design the Curriculum system、Teaching system and Evaluation system of talent cultivation on the basis of following the law of education;combine the job needs and students’ personality characteristics, expand the multiple training path, and implement the student-centered personalized training; comprehensively improve the students’ overall quality and ability level, and ultimately enable students to correctly choose the most suitable path to success.

Abstract: Deep learning is an important research topic in the field of educational technology, the Horizon Report released by the New Media Alliance in 2017 points out that deep learning is a key direction in promoting educational development and reform. This research is based on the CRS review discussion teaching mode, applying classroom response system in interactive teaching environment, in order to promot students' deep learning. Aiming at the problems of single teaching method, simple classroom communication, fuzzy monitoring of learning situation and low efficiency of teaching goal in junior high school physics review course, this paper takes junior high school physics review course as an example, discusses the teaching efficiency of CRS-based review course qualitatively, and uses comparative experiment to analyze the difference between teaching effect, students' deep learning achievement degree and learning type. The results show that, Based on the CRS junior high school physics review class in-depth learning model can improve students' academic performance, enhance the degree of achievement of students' deep learning. Therefore, we should actively explore the deep integration path of CRS and physics teaching, give full play to the advantages of CRS in focusing on the core issues in the classroom, evaluation of innovative learning process to improve the effectiveness of physics teaching.

Abstract: The connotation of professional certification of engineering education is that a professional certification evaluation organization conducts a comprehensive evaluation of engineering professional disciplines set up by educational institutions. The entire evaluation process consists of specialized occupations, industry associations, industry federations, professional societies and education in this field. Experts and enterprise experts in related industries work together to ensure that these engineering professionals have sufficient professional qualities and abilities when entering the real industrial social environment. At present, the whole process of engineering education professional certification in China mainly relies on manual audit applications. In order to realize the interconnection between applicants and evaluators, an engineering education professional certification and evaluation system is needed. Through this platform, the docking between universities and evaluation expert groups can be realized, and the evaluation results can be visualized. This paper is a part of the basic work of the evaluation system. Its main work is: using data analysis and expert method to analyze the general standard of engineering education professional certification; By using data analysis and expert method, this paper analyzes some relevant standards of Engineering Education Accreditation in China; The specific indicators of the engineering education accreditation evaluation system are screened out by using the expert method; According to the whole process of evaluation and certification, combined with the characteristics of other evaluation systems, the index system of evaluation system is designed; Completed the functional and non functional analysis of the evaluation system. These works lay a solid foundation for the design and implementation of the subsequent engineering education accreditation evaluation system.

Abstract: Workshop Physics, initiated by P. W. Laws and her colleagues at Dickinson College, is an activity-based collaborative-learning curriculum enhanced by using computer tools for data acquisition, display and analysis, during which students experience various learning activities including predictions, qualitative observations, quantitative experiments, mathematical modeling and problem solving, etc. The curriculum was formally established when the Workshop Physics team was awarded a two-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Science Education. As a more flexible and comprehensive set of activity-based curricular materials were needed, the Activity-Based Physics Suite, which included Workshop Physics, Interactive Lecture Demonstrations, Real-Time Physics, was integrated to reduce implementation barriers for instructors. With the philosophy of reducing content, abandoning formal lectures, emphasizing the process of scientific inquiry and using computer tools flexibly, Workshop Physics centers around Workshop Physics Activity Guide, a series of workbooks covering selected content about Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Electromagnetics, along with diverse computer tools, customized apparatus and other supplemental learning materials such as the Interactive Video Vignettes. Over years of development, although in need of a few more adjustments and modifications, Workshop Physics has won prestigious reputation among students and instructors for its cooperative learning environment, diverse activities, efficient tools and remarkable teaching effectiveness.
