Abstract: Background: Dyslexia is a developmental brain-based type of learning disability that affects a person's ability to read and spell words. Best estimates place 5 percent to 10 percent of the population with the condition, but the incidence of dyslexia is challenging to pinpoint, as the definition of dyslexia varies throughout research. Objective: The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of dyslexia, its characteristics, assessment and identification, and intervention techniques for the condition. Results: Although the disorder varies from person to person, common characteristics among people with dyslexia include difficulty with phonological skills, low accuracy and fluency of reading, poor spelling, and/or rapid visual-verbal responding. Dyslexia is a neurological condition and can be inherited, and recent studies have identified a number of genes that may predispose an individual to developing dyslexia. Identification of dyslexia early requires recognition of characteristics such as difficulty associating sounds with letters, reading dysfluencies, spelling difficulties, challenges with written expression and poor handwriting. Dyslexia assessments can guide professions in ways to best administer treatment, such as via strategies to enhance word training and improve decoding skills. All of these interventions have shown to benefit the reading and writing abilities of persons with dyslexia. Conclusions: The unique nature and presentation of dyslexia varies among individuals. The importance of understanding as much as possible and keeping abreast of the assessment and intervention strategies available is critical to minimizing the long-term effects of dyslexia.

Abstract: If created along the principles of engagement, relevance and measurability, learning games offer appealing benefits both for managers (project sponsors) and employees (end-users). Yet widespread use of such serious games at for-profit organisations may be set back by financial barriers. The article focuses on how to create simulations cost-effectively and at a good quality level at the same time. The key is to advance in small, consecutive steps, creating short, self-contained stories with a limited number of characters in a relatively simple, unchanged environment. On a simple and steady platform of a few strong-featured heroes, together with their business and human relations, a complex world of intricate narratives may be built up as new topics are treated. As developers we do not need to make big promises about the numbers of learning goals and skills to improve. We just start by stating that we can set up a modular system of simulations in a relatively inexpensive way. If we do it right, there will always be enough interest (and money) to expand the horizon. Nevertheless, it is still true that we need a considerable investment of trust and financial resources at the beginning, just to be able to introduce the characters and setting to the audience just as well as to create the appropriate software background.

Abstract: The natural environment at high altitude triggers plateau diseases. This requires excellent military physicians that have graduated from high altitude military medical training to serve people on the plateau. High altitude military medical undergraduates need to complete a variety of military medicine courses. High altitude military medical geography is an important subject in military medicine that focuses on the relationship between the high altitude geographical environment and the health and medical support of military members. Considering military medical geographic information is a key aspect before military actions. This article summarizes the experience of teaching a high altitude military medical geography program, which has produced Chinese military medical undergraduates with excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Our teaching process includes the first and second class levels. The former comprises theoretical and practical courses, including investigations in the field, practice on the plateau, and practice with geographic information systems. During the first class level teaching process, theoretical knowledge was reorganized and combined into four modules. After moving to the second class level, which last for 2–3 years, students continue to develop their military medical geography expertise under the guidance of teachers in summer school. This characteristic teaching mode supports the training of excellent high altitude military physicians for China.

Abstract: As an important supporting force of national competitiveness, higher education must actively adapt to economic and social changes and strive to enhance the competitiveness of education [1]. Up to now, both government departments and all walks of life have made it clear that the transformation to application-oriented colleges should become an important direction of the transformation and development of independent colleges. Independent colleges should seize the opportunity of transformation and development, clarify the orientation of running schools, and strengthen the training characteristics of skilled and applied talents. The construction level of application-oriented teachers determines the level of school running and the healthy and sustainable development of the transformation development. This paper analyzes the bottlenecks in the transformation and development of independent colleges, current situation of the teaching staff and the difficulties encountered in the transformation, and then promotes the construction of applied teachers from three aspects: government policy support, Participation of social forces, optimization of the structure of school teachers, and reconstruction of teachers' self-identity.
