Abstract: Although, improvement has been observed in Ethiopia, female students’ academic competency and performance is low compared with male students because of various economical, environmental or socio cultural factors resulting higher attrition rate in their academic success. The study was designed to assess female students’ perception on factors affecting their academic competency and performance. Cross-sectional study and random sampling was applied among Dire Dawa University senior female students. Questionnaire and structured interview were used for data collection. Female students’ perception on various factors was addressed. Most female students agreed that institutional, family and their background, environmental and socio-cultural, behavioral and commitment related factors affect their academic performance and competency. They perceived that lack of self-confidence, stress, lack of preparation, university related factors (lack of proper reading place, lack of proper guidance), and students and teachers characteristics influence their competency and performance. The university management, parents, students themselves and other concerned bodies should work to reduce factors that affect academic performance and competency of female students. Projects should be designed to alleviate the problems so as to make female students competent and successful in their academic life.

Abstract: The educational theory of “learning before teaching and the teaching depends on learning outcomes” gained widespread popularity among teachers and students in the growth trend of the current K12 online teaching. But there are still some problems to think about such as: what students should learn before teaching, how they learn it, the effects of class preparation and so on. It is also important to know how and what teaching methods teachers should adopt in accordance with students learning. Lexue 100 has done deep study by analyzing the above-mentioned issues and worked out its own solutions. We found that with the heuristic education, systematic exercises, seasonable rewards and answering services, each student could learn from the simple to harder ones at his own pace on Lexue 100 on-line learning platform. It also shows the improvements in students’ basic knowledge, skills in solving problems and interests of learning. Some experimental data will be provided. More importantly, the platform provided by Lexue 100 will combine teaching with learning greatly. “Internet plus Education” and the management of big data will make teaching, learning and supervision more rational, scientific, convenient and visual.

Abstract: Among young people a decline in interest for science and also the decline in understanding of science has been noticed. The traditional form of teaching, which are largely based on the theoretical interpretation of scientific ideas and scientific theories, do not contribute enough to improve the situation. One possible solution to this problem is the approach of teaching chemistry in context, which has its origins in the beginning of the eighties. In general colleges during the 1st year the Gas laws has been carried out in the learning unit with a different approach of teaching chemistry – teaching in context. The use of context was implemented, where the concepts are connected with the day-to-day life and social issues in the area of teaching chemistry. A learning unit is presented with the use of the program called exe, by which enabled the presentation of films, animations and solving of applied tasks on the interactive whiteboard. Students had access to the learning unit also via the online classroom Moodle. The purpose of my learning unit of the Gas laws was to improve secondary school teaching methods and learning chemistry with the aim of improving the quality of knowledge of students, as well as sustainable knowledge and interest of pupils for learning chemistry. The presentation of the gas laws using information and communication technology in the classroom has increased the interest of pupils for learning chemistry.

Abstract: Regulating lines are visible or implied lines used to compose and construct artifacts, buildings, landscapes or other objects. In landscape architecture, regulating lines have been used from antiquity. During the renaissance, for example, many French formal gardens were organized with symmetry and Euclidean geometry as organizing elements. These formal gardens often had visible or implied regulating lines. Contemporary use and asymmetrical use of regulating lines can be observed in the works of Dan Kiely, Peter Walker, Andrea Cochran, Marth Swartz and others. In landscape architecture, the use of regulating lines and the articulation of a method to design with regulating lines is not well-developed. There are several introductory textbooks in landscape architecture education which mention regulating lines, but these references lack detail regarding how regulating lines can be observed or used. This paper explores a case study example of how regulating lines were used as a teaching tool. As an exercise in the design studio, landscape architecture students were given assignments to make a landscape design with the use of regulating lines. One case study is presented to demonstrate how regulating lines can be used by students and faculty in the design studio. Regarding application to professional practice, the design of some informal designs may not be aided by regulating lines such as meandering designs or highly irregular properties. This paper aims to encourage dialog and critique of using regulating lines as a teaching tool, and to demonstrate their potential appropriateness or usefulness.
