Abstract: As the world is drifting into globalization with attendant competition coupled with rise in income of consumers, providers of goods and services are becoming extremely conscious of what goods and services they produce or render tomeet and satisfy the ever sophisticated and differentiated consumer’s needs. The study examined the determinants of consumers’ preference for value added groundnut in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The objectives were to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents examine the determinants of consumers’ preference for value added groundnut and identify the different form of value addition in groundnut marketing. Multistage sampling technique was employed in data collection, a total of 76 respondents were selected. Descriptive statistics involving tables, frequency, percentage and mean were used for analysis of the data collected. The result indicates that that majority of the respondents were female (69.7%), between the age of 20–29 years old, had formal education (98.7%) with household size of less than5 members (48.7%). Fried and bottled groundnut (mean=3.28), fried and peeled groundnut (mean=2.92) and boiled groundnut (mean=2.83) were frequently consumed by the respondents. Important factors influence groundnut preferred were taste (mean=2.91), ability to store for long (mean=2.53), price (mean=2.30) and quality (mean=2.24). The major constraints associated with consumers’ preference for value added groundnut were found to be; inadequate capital, lack of storage facilities, and health issues. It was recommended that modern storage facilities be provided for groundnut marketers and groundnut should be fortified with vitamins to encourage increased patronage.

Abstract: Student advising services are often regarded as the mainstream vehicle for promoting relationships, understanding, and performance in academic institutions especially at the tertiary level. However, it is often fraught with challenges in developing countries in respect of insufficient supporting manpower and attendant high cost of running effective services. In institutions where the services exist, not all students benefit from it as a result of some factors such as: the sub-optimal performance of the advising personnel; negative psychological complex in students arising from unusual egocentrism (especially in those students who are regarded as “low performers” and would prefer not to be openly confronted); handicapped students especially those students with visible handicaps e.g. speech problems, etc. This paper is the first part of a study aimed at creating a balance in the foregoing situations by presenting a design of a faceless automated “AdvisorBot” based on the bot framework. The design reflects a virtual support system model which could be adopted to enhance student support and course advising efficiency. Analysis of the existing system in most tertiary institutions in Nigeria reveals that student support services actually exist though not efficient in the sense that there are seldom specialized units/departments dedicated to this function in majority of the Institutions especially the public institutions where student advising is the work of academic staff in the various departments. The design follows a mix of the agent and object-oriented approaches and produces an implementation-ready specification whose full implementation would effectively support students during their studies. The system facilitates the process of advising by providing quick and easy access to valuable information, and giving important feedback on several issues involved in student advisement, which otherwise would take considerable time.

Abstract: Women’s economic empowerment is an inevitable part of economic development discourse in any development undertaking of a nation. Women empowerment depends on taking part in various development activities. Therefore, the involvement of women in various entrepreneurial activities has empowered them in social, economic and cultural fields. Despite recent progress in the advancement and empowerment, women in Bangladesh still remain vulnerable to poverty and social deprivations. Women entrepreneurs are in a less favorable position compared to men in case of accessing for example commercial credit from formal financial service providers, more lucrative markets, rather than the traditional local markets, technology and information to establish and grow their businesses, national incentives in small enterprise development through gender blind private sector development and fiscal policies and legislation and training and education for small enterprise development. In such a context, this paper attempts to investigate, evaluate and analyze the available support services for developing women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. The paper also focuses on some issues of concern and challenges of women entrepreneurship development in Bangladesh and finally, provides some strategy recommendations.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to design a smart grid framework which tracks power consumption of household appliances. The study explored technology being used with current traditional power grid to transmit and distribute electricity from power generation sources until power reaches the final consumer. The challenges and problems of the current traditional grid were unearthed in this study to bring best solution to mitigate the current power shortage problems. Smart grid model which supports real-time electricity power usage monitoring and controlling capability is proposed as an alternative measure to control unnecessary power usage for domestic and commercial purposes. Real-time power usage monitoring, distributed power generation, varying energy demand, remote detection and faults identification, and bi-directional communication are cross-cutting technology and drivers of the implementation of smart grid. The researchers recommended energy authorities to engage with power customers to craft a policy that govern remote monitoring and controlling of electrical appliances’ power consumption to ensure complete adoption of smart grid.

Abstract: The Industrial Internet of Things is opening opportunities for mining and metals companies to pursue visibility, safety, and efficiency like never before. There are many aspects of this industry that make it an ideal candidate for transformation. These include large physical environments, changing market and environmental conditions, and the massive size and amount of equipment. Additionally, the challenges of assessing asset conditions against maintenance schedules and logistical constraints must be met. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is at the heart of this transformation. It connects people, machines, items, and services to streamline the flow of information, enable real-time decisions, and open new opportunities in mining and metals. Leading companies are already investing billions in the Industrial Internet of Things and realizing returns that range from increased asset uptime and efficient predictive maintenance to autonomous fleets of vehicles able to move more goods. This paper will be talking about various digital applications available for the Metals and Mining industry. Companies can use advanced analytics to extract management-relevant information from the large amounts of unstructured data that they generate. This information can then be used to improve how mines are run and to make better-informed and speedier decisions across the full range of the mining business processes. The applications start from design & engineering followed by supply chain management, production & maintenance management, transport & logistics management. This paper will briefly discuss about variety of enterprise level real time performance solutions in various fields of the Metals and Mining industry.
