Abstract: Effective health and safety training can contribute to a reduction of workplace accidents and assist employers to meet their health and safety legal obligations as prescribed by health and safety legislation. This paper considers the competency requirements for trainers of health and safety within the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) context from a standards perspective. Currently, there are not specific specified requirements for these trainers, but rather generic requirements that apply to all trainers in the VET sector. An interpretive qualitative method utilizing observations based on a review of a range of sources, including published research, standards documents, general internet sources and industry publications is applied such that the health and safety training practices and environments in the VET sector are explored and described. Health and safety training, in order to be effective, warrants careful attention to the training environment, the training practices implemented and the skills and knowledge of the trainer. The role of standards for health and safety training, with ANSI/ASSE Z490.1-2016 and CAN/CSA Z1001-18b provided as examples, is considered and a these standards provide a basis for a proposed standardization for health and safety training practitioners in the Australian VET system. The findings offer inclusion of a specific training and assessment unit of competency in the TAE Training and Education Training Package to address the specific requirements for safety trainers, which then be used as a benchmark in the VET sector and by employers and industry. The paper, in conclusion, posits that inconsistent training practices and trainer qualifications could be minimized by utilizing a national, consensus-based standard on the training practices in health and safety training, which can be achieved through a competency specification.

Abstract: The educational system of the world has shown great improvement in terms of knowledge, interest, and motivation as demonstrated among the children in the world. The performance of children in their academics in the recent times, in this 21st century has shown a tremendous improvement. In the western world, teaching and learning methods is taught to learner through computer simulation, computer tutorial, 3D animation and field trip. Field trip makes students to see things for them to get first-hand information, this has made teaching and learning to be impressive, students can understand what is taught to them. Teaching is made simple because what is taught to students they see it, touches it, and feels it by hand themselves, when they go on visit to the sight. In Nigeria cycle, the teaching and learning method is done in lecture methods in schools, which make students and pupils not to understand what is being taught to them, learning is bored because the learner do not see what is taught to them, they are abstract in nature because teacher does the teaching, while students listing to the teacher. It is a teacher learning centered approach; in carrying out this study the researcher used survey design methods to gather data for the research, findings was discussed to back up the research, conclusion were made. Field trip brings excitement, cooperation by doing things collectively, first-hand information by knowing what you are to learn by visiting, feeling, and touching to make learning methods to be simple.

Abstract: The need for post-graduate students to complete their programmes within the stipulated time necessitated this study. Thus, the study examined students’ related determinants of post-graduate studies completion time in vocational and technical education programmes in South-South Nigerian Universities. A research question guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was employed for the study. The population consisted of 204 post graduates of vocational and technical education programmes in South-South Nigerian Universities. The population constituted the sample size since it was not too large. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled Determinants of Post-Graduate Studies Completion Time Questionnaire (DPGSCTQ). The instrument was validated by three experts. To determine the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach Alphawas used to check the internal consistency and thus, the reliability coefficient of 0.78 was obtained. The data collected for the study were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. The t-test and ANOVA were used to test the null hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed that students’ related factors such as demography, research orientation, study habit, among others, contribute to a great extent to the completion time of the students in the post-graduate programmes. It was recommended among others that post-graduate students should show commitment in their studies; avoid procrastination and poor study habits in order to make their time count in the programmes.
