01About This Special Issue

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasingly important global challenge affecting animal health, human health, food safety, and environmental sustainability. The emergence and dissemination of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and resistance genes across animals, humans, food products, and environmental ecosystems highlight the need for integrated strategies based on the One Health approach. Veterinary antimicrobial use, livestock production, food-chain contamination, and the release of antimicrobial residues and resistant microorganisms into the environment are important research areas requiring coordinated scientific investigation.
The primary goal of this Special Issue is to advance scientific understanding of the emergence, transmission, surveillance, and control of antimicrobial resistance at the animal–human–environment interface. We invite contributions that explore innovative One Health approaches to AMR, with particular interest in veterinary microbiology, foodborne pathogens, environmental reservoirs, molecular epidemiology, antimicrobial stewardship, and emerging computational technologies.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  1. Antimicrobial resistance in livestock, companion animals, and veterinary clinical settings
  2. Resistant bacteria and antimicrobial resistance genes in meat, milk, eggs, and other food products
  3. Environmental dissemination of antimicrobial resistance through soil, water, wastewater, and agricultural systems
  4. Molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, bacterial virulence, and biofilm formation
  5. Genomic surveillance, whole-genome sequencing, metagenomics, and comparative genomics of resistant microorganisms
  6. Epidemiological studies investigating the transmission of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria between animals, humans, food products, and the environment
  7. Antimicrobial use, antimicrobial stewardship, and strategies for reducing unnecessary antibiotic use in veterinary medicine
  8. Alternative approaches to controlling bacterial infections, including bacteriophages, antimicrobial peptides, probiotics, and natural products
  9. Bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and computational approaches for predicting antimicrobial resistance and identifying potential therapeutic candidates
  10. Risk assessment, prevention strategies, and integrated One Health surveillance systems for antimicrobial resistance
We welcome original research articles, systematic and scoping reviews, meta-analyses, short communications, case studies, and methodological contributions that provide robust scientific evidence and practical insights into AMR.
Through this Special Issue, we aim to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, improve understanding of AMR transmission pathways, strengthen integrated surveillance strategies, and support evidence-based interventions to preserve antimicrobial effectiveness. We welcome researchers from veterinary medicine, microbiology, epidemiology, food science, environmental science, pharmacology, and bioinformatics to contribute diverse perspectives to this critical One Health challenge. These contributions will help advance scientific knowledge and inform sustainable strategies for controlling antimicrobial resistance at local, regional, and global levels.
