About This Special Issue
In recent years, man has been changing his thinking in relation to the environment explored by him, since there is a concern with water availability and the quality of these resources, mainly permeating the population's awareness of the rational use of water. Attitudes and solutions are performed aiming at preservation for present and future generations, as recommended by Federal Law No. 9,433 / 97.
Water consumption in public and / or institutional buildings may be reduced when measures related to water conservation and alternatives to minimize losses in installations are adopted. The monitoring of consumption in these buildings is a control tool that helps reduce waste, thus generating significant savings in water bills.
In Bahia, some initiatives and technical programs are known for the purpose of saving and rational use of water in buildings. Among the achievements, we can mention the AGUAPURA program, built by the Clean Technologies Network of the Federal University of Bahia (TECLIM / UFBA) (AGUAPURA, 2018). More recently, and still under construction, the initiative developed by the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), through the Water Working Group (GTÁGUAS), aims to plan efficient actions for reducing demand and conserving water, with the reduction of losses and waste, as well as to make the academic community aware of the importance of preservation.
The research project “Rational use of water in the municipal schools of Cruz das Almas from the insertion of cisterns”, carried out with the support of the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia, the monitoring of water in the schools of that municipality, in order to evaluate the scenario of water use in these environments in order to contribute to better management. This paper describes and presents the methodology and the main results obtained from the monitoring. The methodology used was outlined based on the elaboration of an inventory, which constituted a detailed survey of the equipments that integrate the consumption system as well as their influence on the demand in the institution.
Focusing on achieving the expected results, this paper aims to diagnose water consumption in the municipal urban schools of Cruz das Almas-Ba, as well as to know the general operational conditions of water systems, in order to propose solutions and intervention measures to solve the problems of actual losses and irrational water consumption.
Aims and Scope:
  1. Assess ways of using water
  2. Evaluate hydraulic equipment, its condition and type
  3. Identify the possibility of using rainwater
  4. Tailor rainwater use for various purposes
  5. Study the benefits of rainwater in schools
  6. Evaluate Rainwater Acceptance
