About This Special Issue
For this Special Issue of Science Journal of Chemistry, we invite researchers in the antimicrobial drug discovery community to continue enriching the solution’s bank to combat the antimicrobial resistant era.
We aim to stimulate innovation in Antimicrobials Research by highlighting the approaches or strategies that are applied to solve different issues along the drug discovery pipeline. While we emphasize in the utilization of the chemistry techniques, the intricate nature of this topic demands our attention to bioassay design and antimicrobial research sustainability as well.
Therefore, in this Special Issue, we are seeking original Articles, Short Communications, Letters, Perspectives, Viewpoints or Review Articles focusing on antimicrobial research for discovery and development of chemical agents to treat infectious diseases that affect the humankind, as are those that affect the health care systems, animals and plants. The investigatios will include the application of one or more techniques of the Chemistry’s Toolbox in any of the antimicrobial drug discovery platforms. For examples are the cases of natural products random screening studies that include elucidation of structural features of bioactive compounds present in extracts of fractions that were tested in phenotypic or whole cell assays, in specific targets (as enzymatic or liposome based assays) or by computational based approaches. The bioactivities can be in a broad range: antimicrobials, growth inhibitors, chemical sensitizers, resistance breakers and other bioactivity adjuvants.
We are especially interested in innovative approaches to explore the natural products chemical space relevant to antimicrobials (e.g., innovative docking protocols or algorithms, selection of targets based on metagenomics analysis, HTS methods, pre-screening methods, criteria for antimicrobial-like molecules, chemical derivatization). Antimicrobial modeling performed with computational methods available for in silico drug design—including but not exclusive to natural products—, such as docking, molecular dynamics, QSAR, pharmacophore modeling, virtual screening, free energy calculations, density functional theory applications, and QM/MM, are welcome.
We are also seeking manuscripts analyzing future prospects on research directions and sustainable economic models for antimicrobial drug discovery research at worldwide level.
